A former Dothan doctor faces charges he illegally recorded video and molested unconscious patients and others after moving to Michigan.
Oumair Aejaz allegedly used hidden cameras to record children as young as 2 years old along with women of various ages in hospital rooms, changing areas, inside closets, bathrooms, and bedrooms he could access, and at an area swim club.
“This is one of the most disturbing sexual predator cases I have seen in my very long career,” said Oakland County, Michigan Sheriff Michael Bouchard on Tuesday. “He violates literally anyone and everyone he can. From a 2-year-old boy to grown women, no one is immune from his disgusting predatory behavior.”
Southeast Health confirmed to News4 that the hospital employed Aejaz from 2015 until 2018 as a hospitalist.
“We were shocked to hear of the allegations this individual is charged with in Michigan,” Southeast Health spokesperson Mark Stewart said. “We have not been contacted by law enforcement at this time and we have no knowledge of these occurrences happening at our facility.”
Bouchard said detectives took six computers, four cell phones, and 15 external storage devices from Aejaz’s home.
Bouchard said one device contained more than 13,000 videos Aejaz recorded during the past six years. Detectives said it could take six months to complete a forensic examination of all the confiscated materials, reported Gray television station WILX.
While there have been no reports of his misconduct in Dothan, investigators in Michigan said there could be additional victims.
Besides alleged hospital conduct, police say Aejaz also abused children at a swim club.
“They were victimized by a person of trust in the community – a medical doctor. It’s more than an invasion of privacy,” Oakland County prosecutor Karen D. McDonald said. “It robs these moms and kids, and all of us, of a sense of safety we should have when we’re with our kids at a place like that.”
Aejaz is a citizen of India working in the United States on a visa, WILX reported.
