A former doctor has appeared in court charged on suspicion of historic sexual and indecent assaults against several men and two boys.

Greg Manson was arrested in 2018 as part of an investigation led by Kent Police’s child and adult protection team. The former GP is to stand trial on multiple abuse charges spanning almost 20 years.

Gregory Manson appeared at Canterbury Crown Court today where he pleaded not guilty to 18 offences of sexual assault and six of indecent assault in respect of nine alleged victims. The 55-year-old, of Tower Way, Canterbury, is accused of carrying out the abuse between October 1998 and September 2017 when he worked as a GP in the city.

His trial, which is estimated to last five weeks, is due to start on November 5.

Manson was released by Judge Simon Taylor KC on unconditional bail. If you have been affected by any of the issues raised in this article, you can contact Dignity4Patients, whose helpline is open Monday to Thursday 10am to 4pm.

Dignity4Patients Commentary: It is uncommon for doctors and healthcare providers who engage in sexual abuse to cease their abusive behaviour once initiated. Regrettably, this case involving 9 male victims may represent a fraction of the actual incidents. It is important to acknowledge the significant emotional distress the victims will endure in seeking justice. Providing support to these victims is critical at this time.
